The Goonies sequel rumor rears it's ugly head again
How many times do I, and just about every true Goonies fan, have to say this: DO NOT MAKE A SEQUEL, Hollywood. And, for that matter, DO NOT REMAKE IT EITHER. (My preemptive strike on that one since they're starting to remake beloved 80's movies like Footloose and Red Dawn). Goonies is beloved because it defined our childhoods, and because it still holds up today. I don't know a single person who wants to see grown up Mikey and Brand and their children going on a crazy Goonie adventure. I mean, even Sean Astin has said he doesn't see it as a good idea.
Don't do it!

Best band in late night TV.
It's undeniable that The Roots are the best band playing on all of the MANY late night talk shows, and Jimmy Fallon got supremely lucky when they agreed to the job. All you need to do is watch one episode to see that. They play interesting intro songs relevant to the individual guests, they Slow Jam the news, they make up songs on the spot. On Friday's show they showed how Questlove set a world record for the most afro picks in one afro. They're awesome.
Last week they performed a song from their upcoming album, and it's fantastic. I can't wait to get it.

A vampire movie where vampires are actually VAMPIRES
This looks promising.
Bonus points for using a Placebo song.

RIP Michael.
Thank you for the music that shaped my childhood. For Thriller and Billie Jean; Beat It and Smooth Criminal; Man in the Mirror and Don't Stop Til You Get Enough; P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing) and Dirty Diana; I'll Be There and We Are The World. For red leather jackets and glittery silver gloves. For Zombies in music videos and monkeys as pets. For The Wiz and the Moonwalk.
No matter what happened to change the public's perception of you, no matter what happened in your personal life, the music you shared with the world will be remembered. You changed the world we lived in and made it joyous for so many, and you will be missed.
Thank you.

Pretty impressive
Most of the time these mash-ups are not well done at all, but I have to say, this one is great.
It really reinforces that I need to go see Star Trek again soon. And get further along on my BSG re-watch.

The Box trailer
There was a time when I thought Richard Kelly was destined to be the next M. Night Shyamalan in regards to storytelling because Donnie Darko was absolutely brilliant. And then I saw Southland Tales.
Hopefully this one is better:

The Plan
This could possibly end up being my favorite Battlestar Galactica thing ever. A movie all about Cylons, letting us finally know the details of their plans? YES PLEASE.
It airs in November, but until then, watch the trailer over at the LA Times website.
A wee little toaster
These aren't available until September, but just in case anyone is wondering what to get me for my birthday in November...

"Never. Never. Nerver."
I haven't been following the Perez Hilton/Will.I.Am fight all that closely. I guess Perez was assaulted or something after calling Will.I.Am the N word? And then whined about how no one deserves to be violently beaten? (Which, um? Dude? You're a douche to everyone all the time, and you called him the N word. You deserved it). So based on this spoof, I'm guessing Perez made a video or something? I'm not interested enough to search it out myself. My interest in this whole thing begins and ends with Breckin Meyer and Zac Efron being fucking awesome.
There's a clear reason why Breckin and Seth Green are BFFs.

Does this mean the show will be even longer?
The Academy Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today that there will be TEN Best Picture nominees at the 82nd Academy Awards ceremony next March. TEN. Not split up between comedy and drama like the Golden Globes, and presumably still having separate categories for Animated, Foreign and Documentary.
Does this mean that genre movies like Star Trek might have a chance of getting nominated for something other than effects? Will there be ten Best Director nominations (assuming there are ten nominated movies directed by ten different people)? What about the acting categories; will they expand in numbers too? Does Up stand a chance of being nominated in both the Best Picture and the Best Animated category?
So cute
I really should think about going into a profession where I work with animals. Nothing makes me smile more than how fucking cute they are, always.
Free Blink-182 in D.C.!
If you live in or near the D.C. area and would like to see Blink-182 and Weezer (along with other artists), Virgin Fest is going to be free this year. I'm seriously considering it.
Lost: The Ride
According to this website, Disney Parks are planning on making a Lost-related ride/feature at their parks, to open in 2011 after the final season ends. I am intrigued.

Oh. My. God. I can't wait!!
But...2010? I thought it was supposed to air this Fall. Wah!

21 Guns
If you don't have Green Day's '21st Century Breakdown' yet, you should get it. It's fantastic. Here's their newest video, which is pretty gorgeous.

Burton's Wonderland
Tim Burton is making a new 3-D live-action Alice In Wonderland, which is exciting to me for two main reasons: I love Tim Burton movies, and I love Alice In Wonderland. However, I am fucking terrified now, seeing how he's conceptualized certain characters and made them so very clown-like.
Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter.
Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen. (Terrifying!)
Anne Hathaway as the White Queen.
Alice.
Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum.

2012 Trailer
My ex-roommate has been fixated on this whole Mayan Calendar-2012-end of the world thing for years. And now there's a movie to scare the crap out of us. I loved Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow, so I'm sure I'll see this too. But yeah, it looks pretty terrifying, if you believe the whole prophesy thing.
I do love John Cusack. It's nice to see him doing something people will see.

Buffy is so much cooler than Bella Swan
And this shows why.
It also shows one of the MANY reasons why Twilight is one of the stupidest things ever, and why Buffy the Vampire Slayer isn't.

Shave, dammit!
See how cute he is when he's clean(er) shaven? I don't know what is going on with Zachary Levi's facial hair in this interview with Ausiello here. It needs to go. He's too cute for this ridiculousness. Also, I'm excited to get Season 2 of Chuck on DVD so I can catch up before Season 3, whenever the DVDs come out.
Hello, Holmes.
Not so shocking, really.
It's confirmed: TR Knight is leaving Grey's Anatomy. Katherine Heigl isn't. I'd much rather have George than Izzie.
Another one gone
In 2001, just after 9/11, HBO premiered their WWII mini-series Band Of Brothers, and few things have moved me more than it. To date, it's one of the most incredible things I've ever seen put to film, and encouraged my already huge interest in learning about WWII. I've read the Stephen Ambrose book, researched the surviving members of Easy Company as well as read the books they themselves have written, and tried to keep track of how they are now. So it makes me sad to learn that another of these incredible men, Darrell "Shifty" Powers has died. My thoughts go out to his family.

The Hobbit news
As much as I love Lord of the Rings, including enjoying the books greatly, I've never been able to get through The Hobbit. That doesn't mean I'm not super excited about the upcoming movie, especially now that I know that Ian McKellan, Andy Serkis and Hugo Weaving are confirmed to be involved. I can't wait to find out who they cast as Bilbo, since it's impossible for Ian Holm to play him.
What other characters from LOTR are in The Hobbit? Galadriel? Arwen?

What other time in history could something this obnoxiously awesome have existed?

The Time Traveler's Wife trailer
I've been waiting for this for SO LONG. Almost as long as I've been waiting for The Lovely Bones trailer. (Soon, Mr. Jackson? Please?)
It looks perfect. The book is so layered and woven through time and perspective, that I was nervous they wouldn't get how it felt right, but thankfully, I was wrong. I can't wait to see it.

Damn.
I don't know how Pixar does it
I haven't seen Up yet - hopefully tomorrow! - but this is the short film that plays just before it. And somehow those geniuses at Pixar got me to laugh and cry in this less-than-five-minute movie. It's possible they have the best screenwriters in Hollywood.

More Blink appearances
They don't sound as good as I'd like, but it's hard to judge when everything is mic'd for TV. Dammit is a LOT better than What's My Age Again. Though...seriously, what's going on with Tom's voice still?

I have been waiting for this trailer for what seems like FOREVER. The book is fantastic, and I think Leo and Mark Ruffalo are perfectly cast. Plus: Scorcese.

Add chipmunk to the list of animals I want to own
More adorable Chipmunk meets Star Wars pictures can be seen here.
Uh huh. Shocker.
Hey, you guys: Adam Lambert is gay. Did'ja know? I know, this news came totally out of left field. I'm glad that now all the "speculation" will be over.

I guess I'll have to watch this too.
Katee Sackhoff has been cast as a series regular on 24 for next season (Day 8). Which is awesome, except that 24 hasn't been great in a really long time. And they've also cast Freddie Prinze Jr., who can't really act.
Or maybe I'll wait for DVD. I'm really over this show.
These people are clearly after my heart
A tiny little musical about a vegetarian zombie? Pretty awesome, if you can get past the Auto Tuning.
Live mighty
Jason Mraz has a fantastically pure voice. If you don't believe me, watch this video of him walking around France just singing and playing his guitar. He sounds incredible.

Hilarious video of Old Trek Kirk reacting to New Trek Kirk.

HOLY SHIT!
IS CHARLIE COMING BACK TO LOST?!!! Oh please please please YES. I freaking LOVE Charlie.
(This is from a series of new promos featuring characters from their shows for the Fall that ABC has released).
ETA: Apparently not. :( (Spoilers, if you care).

Fashion is subjective
As awesome as Leighton Meester is in just about every way possible, I'm not sure about this dress. It's fashion-forward for sure, and it looks fabulous on her, but...I don't know. I can't decide if I like it or not. I do love the purple boots though.
Taraji P. Henson's legs look AMAZING, but there had to be a better dress to show them off other than something reminiscent of a couture french maid Halloween costume, right?

Best. President. Ever.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim June 2009 as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month.
