No one actually still thinks the Lost writers are making things up as they go along, right? Because look at this:
In Season 2, Michael was given a list of names from Miss Klugh with the instructions to bring them to the leader of The Others, and in exchange he could have Walt, and get off the island.
And these four people, Hugo Reyes, Jack Shephard, Kate Austen and James Ford were brought to Ben.
Now, think about it. We all wondered why these four, and now, just three episodes from the end, they are the four of Jacob's candidates still alive. And until I remembered this, I was convinced that everyone other than Jack and UnLocke were going to die but now...I'm not so sure. The layers on this show, the planning, the mapping out...it's amazing. When Lost is finished, it will truly be the end of an era. I'll be impressed if there is ever a show as good as this one has been, even with Season 2's missteps and that whole Paulo and Nikki debacle.

But in the last episode they said Kate's name has been crossed off so she's no longer a candidate. I assumed she was going to die regardless in that episode because everyone was saying a "shocking" death.
Yeah, her name was crossed off, but it's still clearly intentional and has been since at least the end of season 2 that she was going to be with these three men at the end.
And trust me, I've wanted Kate to die since season 1. I hate her.
Gotcha. I will be on the lookout for this and more when I sit down and watch seasons 1-5 this week, marathon style! Wish me luck :) I may blog the experience...if my head doesn't explode.
