The story is that he got in line for questions before the panel in costume, as a fan, with no one aware that he planned to do this. He is darling, and so incredibly gracious. For that, I hope this Spider-Man reboot is great.

FYI: if you haven't seen Never Let Me Go, you should. Not only is it an amazing movie, Mr. Garfield is just incredible in it. But prepare yourself: there will be tears.

I guess I took a hiatus

Let's be honest: things in my life have been crazy this year. I moved halfway across the country to live with my boyfriend at the end of May, and four weeks before that I had to have emergency surgery, which almost derailed my moving timeline. Which, yes, only takes us back to April, but before that I was working a lot, and organizing my life for the big change.

So here I am in Oklahoma. I know, right? Not somewhere I ever expected to live, but it's where the boyfriend is, so it's where I want to be. And I start pastry school in September, so I'll be super busy with that as well. (I may change the focus of my food blog - which I also haven't updated in FOREVER - into a chronicle of my time in school, recording what I learn, etc.)

Yet, even knowing how busy I'll be, I really want to get this blog up and running again. So accept my apologies for my absence, and please, stick around for fun pop culture-y nonsense! I promise there will be lots!

Zach's also going to be in Shonda Rhimes' new show this fall. He was great in the episode of Grey's that he did (but duh, of course he was!), so I'm sure he'll be great in her new one...as long as it's not horrible like Private Practice is.

Yes, I know, I wasn't looking forward to this new, younger Doctor on Doctor Who. I often referred to it as Doctor Who 90210 before the new season aired. Part of that was just my perception on how Matt Smith looked as the Doctor, and how young Karen Gillan looked as the companion.

And then I saw the first episode of the new season and was won over within, I'd say, 2 minutes. Matt Smith is fabulous. Possibly better than my beloved David Tennant (which my friend Michelle already called blasphemy on me for). His superiority to the Doctors who preceded him remains to be seen, but I'm happy to hear Matt will have the chance to win us all over and make us love him at least through 2013.

In addition to Matt Smith, I have enjoyed the new companion Amy Pond, even though I think she's a little bratty. There hasn't been a companion I've liked anywhere near as much as I like Rose Tyler (and I'm still holding out for a possible Rose Tyler appearance because why not?). I didn't love Amy's boyfriend Rory at first, but over the course of the season he became my second favorite companion (after Rose). Rory is the boy who waited, and he deserves his place in the TARDIS.

And finally, is there anyone cooler than River Song? With Matt Smith's being contracted for a while, I'm hoping we'll get much, much more back story and explanation on River. Who she is and how she met the Doctor and what exactly their relationship is. I'm still betting on future wife.

Look, I gave it a fair shot. Three, in fact. I tried to read the books, which were fucking awful; I watched the entire first season, which was fucking awful; and then I gave season 2 a shot after my friend Darnell asked me to several times, and you know what? It was still fucking awful. Sure, it's campy and over the top on purpose, but goddamn it I don't care! It's also NOT GOOD. I sincerely don't understand why so many people love it.

PSA: You should be watching Sons of Anarchy

You hear about how great Mad Men and Breaking Bad are all year long when they're not on the air, and incessantly when they are, and that's the kind of treatment Sons of Anarchy should be getting. It started out a little rough, as some shows are known to do, but by the third or fourth episode it had gotten its footing and barreled on to fucking awesome from there on out. Every single actor on the show from the regulars on down to the guest stars are fantastic, and no one more than Ms. Katey Sagal up there. You will forget she was ever big-haired, whiny Peg Bundy as soon as she opens her mouth as Gemma. It's a travesty that she wasn't nominated for an Emmy this year.

Don't let the fact that it's about a motorcycle club scare you. That's kind of what kept me from watching too, but a friend convinced me to give it a try and I'm so glad I did. You've got until September 7th to catch up, which is totally doable. The seasons are only 13 episodes long.

In the last few years, Comic-Con has gone from something only the nerds and sci-fi fans were interested in to an annual pimpfest for all things television and movies. In becoming such, I've grown less interested in it - I hate that kind of overwhelming enclosed crowd of people situation. It was hard enough when I went 4 years ago and we had to deal with 100,000 people. It's so much worse now.

But I digress. Despite my waning interest in going, there are always panels I wish I could just pop in and listen to without having to deal with the waiting in line for hours/thousands of people factor. Last year the panels I most wanted to see was Burn Notice and Caprica. This year, it's JOSS FUCKING WHEDON AND JJ FUCKING ABRAMS TOGETHER. Are you kidding me, Comic-Con? Next time just stab me in the heart.

I didn't know Brandon Flowers even had a solo record coming out (release date: September 14), but based on the first single "Crossfire", I'm going to love it. The song reminds me of something that could've been on Sam's Town, which is encouraging since that's my favorite of The Killer's Albums. A little Springsteen-ish, a little early U2, and that hint of continuing New Wave influence. I can't wait to hear the full album.

Skins is a brilliant, realistic, gritty show about teens in Bristol, England. It's everything Gossip Girl wishes it could be, because they aren't scared in the UK to swear and be naked in prime time. It's far superior to Gossip Girl, and every teen-centric show here in the US, and should not be replicated on our shores.

And yet, that's exactly what MTV will be doing. It's going to be TERRIBLE, I can guarantee that. I mean, look at the shit MTV regularly puts out: The Hills, Jersey Shore, (I have to admit) The Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Fresh Meat II, 16 and Pregnant...do I really need to go on? There's just no way this is going to be as quality a show as the original, and it saddens me that it could overshadow the version that deserves recognition. Just because the US version of The Office was a success doesn't mean that poaching from UK programming is a good idea as a rule. They enjoy our shows over there, and we can watch theirs on BBC America. Can't we just keep it that way?

No one actually still thinks the Lost writers are making things up as they go along, right? Because look at this:

In Season 2, Michael was given a list of names from Miss Klugh with the instructions to bring them to the leader of The Others, and in exchange he could have Walt, and get off the island.

And these four people, Hugo Reyes, Jack Shephard, Kate Austen and James Ford were brought to Ben.

Now, think about it. We all wondered why these four, and now, just three episodes from the end, they are the four of Jacob's candidates still alive. And until I remembered this, I was convinced that everyone other than Jack and UnLocke were going to die but now...I'm not so sure. The layers on this show, the planning, the mapping out...it's amazing. When Lost is finished, it will truly be the end of an era. I'll be impressed if there is ever a show as good as this one has been, even with Season 2's missteps and that whole Paulo and Nikki debacle.

This year we have collected some great ones from Cory Monteith, Kristoffer Polaha, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jason Alexander, Tim Conway, Gillian Anderson, Florence Henderson, Matthew Perry, Howie Mandel, Elizabeth Mitchell, Kal Penn, Lizzy Caplan, Tim Allen, Gary Cole, Melissa Joan Hart, Nolan Gould, Doris Roberts, Amy Poehler, and Tim Daly (among others!).

Neurofibromatosis (NF) is a genetic disorder that affects one in every 2,500 births. NF is more common than Cystic Fibrosis, Muscular Dystrophy and Huntington's Diseasecombined. Funds raised from the Doodle Day auction will go to support education, advocacy, coalitions, and research for treatments and a cure. To learn more about NF, please visit www.nfinc.org.

Glee cast at the White House

I'll admit, I'm pretty sick of the Glee stuff. The show was inconsistent and sometimes poorly written, and yet everyone's acting like it's the best and most innovative TV show to ever exist. The cast is EVERYWHERE, obnoxiously everywhere. It was nominated for awards it isn't even remotely deserving of (the acting ones especially). It's just too much too soon.

However, when it comes down to it, I do like the show enough to keep up with what's going on with it, and I'm optimistic about its return next week. My (hopefully correct) theory is that Ryan Murphy and co. didn't know whether they'd get that back nine pick up from Fox (and why would they be optimistic when Fox is notorious for not sticking with shows?) so they crammed every idea they had into those 13 guaranteed eps. It would explain the ridiculous fake pregnancy; Quinn's back and forth with Finn and Puck; the terribly inconsistent and often out of character things they had Mr. Schuster, Kurt and Mercedes doing; the horribly over-the-top-ness of Sue Sylvester mixed with here and there moments of humanity; the hiring of Terri as the school nurse, which directly led to the entire Glee Club being on over the counter speed; the absolutely retarded idea that having a former student - former as in graduated in the early 90's - sign up as a student and rejoin the Glee Club in order to win...something, just so they could have Kristen Chenoweth on the show; Emma's absolutely stupid engagement to someone she's clearly disgusted by; Rachel and Puck's one-episode romance; all of these things, and more, crammed into 13 episodes would under normal circumstances turn me away very, very quickly. What saved the show, for me, was the music, despite the horrible over-production of it. If they can get the storylines on a more even and believable keel, if the actors - especially Lea Michele - stop over acting like theater actors, and the song production starts to be more organic, I think the show could be as good as it thinks it is.

Really sounds like I hate it, huh? I know. I have issues with it. But I swear, I do like the show. Enough to keep tuning in. It's not my favorite, and I'm not rushing out to buy the soundtracks or getting tickets to the live shows, but I like it. And in defense of it, I'd heard that their performance at the White House today was absolutely terrible. That Cory Monteith especially sounded awful, and that Lea Michele should be better live than she was. So I was expecting exactly that when I watched this video, only to find that they weren't that bad at all, but that the sound quality from the stage was absolutely horrible. Mics going in and out, etc. It was better when I clicked on the live link this morning and watched part of the Yo Gabba Gabba performance.

I'm a big fan of Jennifer Aniston - I mean, seriously, I'm a fan of all six of the former Friends, no matter what - but I really wish she'd make a decent movie. I don't know what the problem is. She's funny, she's pretty, she's basically perfect for rom-coms, so why is it that every one that she picks seems...terrible? Though, I have to hold out hope that maybe the trailer is the problem on this one (and maybe the title, though it's better than "The Baster", which was its original title) because the rest of the cast is stellar. Jason Bateman makes very good choices most of the time, Juliette Lewis has been great in supporting roles lately, Jeff Goldblum is forever awesome, and Patrick Wilson is wonderful.

Maybe what it is is that Jennifer Aniston is better on TV than in the movies.

Nicholas Brendon, who played Xander on Buffy the Vampire Slayer (and who recently dated a good friend of mine for a second) was arrested last night in Venice, California. He was drunkenly causing a commotion, took a swing at the cops and then was tasered!

Unfortunately, I think this is Nicky hitting rock bottom. Based on what I've been told about him, this is an ongoing problem, so I hope this leads to him actually getting the help he clearly needs. I wish him the best of luck, and hopefully an upswing in his career once he's better!

This year, James Franco has made some interesting choices with his career, all of which seem to have worked to his benefit. There was the General Hospital gig, twice hosting SNL, guest starring on 30 Rock as himself (and in love with a pillow) and filming the biopic Howl, which looks like it'll be fantastic.

And now I find out he also shot a documentary about SNL, which is getting great reviews from SXSW. It seems that you can be unorthodox with your career choices if you're a good enough actor to pull it all off. Kudos, James.

To be fair, there weren't really any fashion disasters. These dresses mostly made me go "huh?"

Diane Kruger is known for being a brave fashionista, and last night was no exception. This Chanel was definitely brave. I actually really liked it until I saw the full dress.

I don't know what Nicole Richie's deal is with these muumuu, 70's inspired clothes, but she should cut it out. I've never seen any one of them make her look attractive.

I'm sure I'm in the minority on this one, but I hate this dress. Or, well, I hate the bottom half. The top is pretty and fits her well, but the poofy thing on her hip? I just think it ruins the whole thing.

Oh, Sarah Jessica. As with Diane's dress, I don't care that this is Chanel. Yes, I like the optical illusion of the sash around her neck/strapless-how-is-it-staying-up thing, but the bottom looks like a silk sack. I think we all expected better from her.

Cameron Diaz deserves this one.

Oscars Fashion: The Good

Ok, so the dresses weren't all bad. Underwhelming, yes, but not terrible. I would have liked to see more color out there, but at least it wasn't a sea of black.

My favorite of the night was Amanda Seyfried's Armani Preve, which in this picture actually looks sea foam green rather than just plain white. I love the sculpting, and it fits her like it was made with her in mind. Also, people in the media? Her last name isn't that hard to pronounce. It's SAY-FREED.

Marchesa did it again with Vera Farmiga's gorgeous dress in that gorgeous...what is that - fuchsia? Magenta? Whatever, it's fantastic, and goes so well with her skin color. She's just so pretty anyway - and looks so much like an older version of my friend Jenni, which just makes me like her more, to be honest.

While I do think that Demi Moore looks a bit too skinny now, this Versace dress looks lovely on her. Wish it was a little brighter rather than pale pink, but that seemed to be the trend last night.

I haven't seen Precious (based on the blah blah blah), nor do I plan to, but I adore Gabourey Sidibe based on the interviews I've seen her do, and I love that she's clearly having such a great time being famous. Her interview with Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet yesterday was hilarious. I think this Marchesa, especially the color, looks wonderful on her. I can't wait to see The Big C, which she'll be starring in along side Laura Linney. Hopefully it'll be less depressing than the movie she's famous for.

In Style (dot com) says this Versace that Elizabeth Banks wore is lavender in color, but I'm not convinced. It looked gray on TV, and in this picture. I do think it's a pretty dress, but again, in a different color it would have been stunning.

I really love Rachel McAdams' Elie Saab's watercolor-y print dress and she looks just beautiful in it.

And finally, Sandra Bullock's metallic Marchesa, which we debated every time she was on screen over the color. Is it silver? Is it gold? We all knew it would look amazing next to the little gold statue, which is what mattered most.

Oscar fashion was pretty disappointing this year.

I was most excited to see Zoe Saldana's dress based on her choices at every other event, but I was sadly disappointed. The one she wore to the ceremony was a clusterfuck of ideas that individually might've worked, but all together is a mess.

And then this one, that she wore to the 20th Century Fox party is better, but the fade from light to dark/dipped in paint thing is totally out. It's too bad she couldn't have just worn the gorgeous dress she wore at the Golden Globes again.

I dated this guy a long time ago who introduced me to The Runaways, and it was like love at first note. They're just so raw and dirty and 70's punk awesomeness, and were over so quickly. I was nervous when I heard this movie was being made, especially since Dakota Fanning was cast as Cherie Currie and Kristen Stewart - who I hate - was cast as Joan Jett, but with each new thing I see for it, I'm convinced the casting was perfect. I can't wait to see this movie.

Senses of humor are hotter than sparkling

How happy am I that RPATTZ still has a sense of humor about himself? So happy. Back in the Goblet of Fire days when we all loved his absurdity and opium den of pirate sex, just got laid in the limo way about him, what was really awesome was how he just didn't care about his image, and was humble. It's hard to remember that when you see him being attacked by crazy fans and constantly surrounded by security guards. Here's hoping after the Twilight shit ends, that he gets to amuse us again with his don't give a shit attitude.

My friend Tom Metz made this 6-part web series last year, and it's finally available for public consumption. It's called Premarital Six.

Six friends meet for a bachelor party. Six hours later, they're all in jail. Each tells their story as they try to piece together what happened and get their lives back to normal... if they can.

Sounds a little like The Hangover, but it's not, trust me. Plus, it was already finished by the time that movie came out, so the comparison is only coincidental.

This is amazing. Juan Osborne took the time to go through every script (season 1-5) on Lostpedia to find out how many words each character said (Jack - 28,591; Locke - 22,670) and how frequently they used certain words. Like with Wordle, the bigger the word is, the more frequently it was used.
